CROATIA GARAGE

Many times, an ordinary building can capture your attention.

We are traveling this week, so I offer this simple drawing of a simple building.  I snapped the photo below from my bicycle.  We were spelunking in a Croatia neighborhood, and the abject modernity of this piece captured my imagination.

The simple stepping, offsets and flat roof.  All crowned by the shed form.  I just find this sort of thing amazing.  I made my drawing from just this photo;  I could not see what the back of the building looked like without abject trespassing.

And of course my drawing seems to remove the building further from it’s context.  You might say that my drawing is an idealized version of the reality.  Yet I think it still captures the elegant simplicity of this structure.

I find something like this nearly timeless.
