OBVIOUS FUTILITY

BEAUX ARTS 46-03Lockhard writing in 1974:

“The attempt to try to show all the aspects and qualities of any designed space or object in any single view is obviously futile.” p138.

Futile?  This is Lockhard writing in the classic Design Drawing.  Despite everything that Lockhard says in this book, they never broach the concept of transparency.  Yet showing all aspects of any designed space or object in a single view is exactly what we do.  Look at various examples previously published, including Villa Savoye, Villa Stein, Crown Hall, etc.  The above drawing captures everything that Lockard says is futile.

Never Say Never:  the new age of drawing starts here and now.
