DRAWN TO DESIGN 2

MS10-003 TRANSPARENT DRAWING

A few weeks ago, Eric Jenkens, very kindly responded to my comments on his book, Drawn To Design. Link here to that post. And Eric’s comments can be seen to the right side of this page.

As I mentioned in that post, I was not aware of Drawn To Design until it was pointed out to me by someone on Linkedin. (I tried to go back thru and see who that was, but I was unable to find their comment.)  That person made the comment to me that there was no difference between Transparent Drawing and Drawn To Design. So in an almost chastised mood, I ordered Eric’s book.

And as I pointed out, there are differences between his approach and mine. I have referred to Eric’s book on occasion. For example, when I was moved to explore Church of the Light, I went to Eric’s book to see if he had addressed Ando’s work. It turned out that Drawn to Design explored Church on the Water, another of Ando’s pieces.

As I mentioned to Eric in a subsequent e-mail exchange, it is simply amazing that I can find out about his book, order his book, post about his book, and then read his comments about my comments, all sort of automatically on the internet. While this sort of experience is humdrum for the young, 59 year old people like me who learned to draft with a parallel rule continue to be amazed by it all.

Please check out this link to Eric’s sketchbook on the web. If you have not had a chance to look thru Drawn to Design, you can see some of Eric’s excellent drawings here. And yes, some of them, thankfully, have transparency.
