MIX UP YOUR SPACETIMES!

Mixed Spacetime: Form Combine

Don’t be shy to mix spacetimes. Representational Spacetime has such a strong hold on us that you almost have to force yourself to draw in different holistic projections. All you have to do is find two source images that are spacetime non congruent, and draw one over the other in a Form Combine. With this armature established, you are then free to improvise.

Left: La pescheria a Portico d’Ottavia by Prout – Right: Porto, Portugal

These are the two source images for the drawing at the top. Prout’s watercolor has one vanishing point, whereas my photo, taken from a bridge, in Porto, Portugal has two. The greater the deviation of the vanishing points, the greater the spacetime differential.

It is this differential that creates previously unimaginable resonances on your paper. And it is great fun to then work to provide a unification to the spacetimes that are pulling you in possibly uncomfortable directions. Focus your interpretative effort on unification. If you persevere on your pathway of holistic knowledge, an authentic form will begin to resolve itself.
