DESIGN A BARN

New Barn Design

Let’s design a new barn with Transparent Drawing tools. I thought it would be fun to start with barn forms, and then see how they might help format an entirely new barn. The Drawing Mode is Form Combine. I then correlated three Source Images for the initial forms.

Three Barns – Upstate New York

The Source Images that I used were taken over a two year time frame. Two of them were taken while riding my bicycle, and all of them are in New York State. The image on the right knocks me out every time I look at it: this unique barn form can be seen generally around Seneca Falls.

The Process

I drew one barn on top of the other. A different drawing instrument was used for each: permanent felt tip, water soluble pencil, and red water soluble ball point. Each barn was drawn holistically, and the great thing is that you are able to knowledge three entire forms as you establish an armature. You are not just drawing one barn, as you would do in Representational Spacetime. You draw three holistic forms, one right over the other. This is a great economy and efficiency of knowledge.

I then worked to knowledge a new, holistic form. I used the assembly tool Ink Stick. The grey lines are an improvisation over the Form Combine, and I proceeded toward my own unique unification, using Automatic Form as a general drawing mode.

Pushing further, I then worked to move even closer to a resolved form with the grey/green tones. These tones respond to everything that has happened before. We are moving from Line to Form. Possibly another go at this would yield a complete form. Yet even in the state the form is in, I can see any number of nodes which would lead directly to a resolved, yet completely new barn design.

And that is the entire point. The resultant form is yours. From Source Image to Fresh New Form, you generated everything. There was no algorithm in sight. The Provenance Quotient is 100%. The authenticity is documented.
