DIAGRAM VS. REPRESENTATION

A Diagram – Source Images are 1. Desargues and 2. Neolithic Figurine.

A diagram is a drawing that explains how something works. The antonym of diagram is representational. Diagram and Representation. With these two words, we arrive at the heart of the problem. I find it stunning to have this cultural binary revealed at such a fundamental lingual level.

The word diagram is a very basic word in our vocabulary. To denote how something works in the physical world, you draw a diagram. Schematic is a synonym. All diagrams are drawings. Most drawings are not diagrams.

Just look, in the screen shot above, at the other antonyms that were returned in addition to Representation. Repel. Push. All words with negative connotations. Yet, per the Transparent Drawing worldview, this makes sense. Representational Spacetime, as we have been saying since day one, pushes the viewer out of the continuum. The act of perception is one that repels. You are outside of time and outside the experience. You have been pushed outside of time and now can only look in. I have written many pages on this, including the ones found at the links below:

All of my drawings, then, are diagrams. What a compliment! All we ever want to do, on our pathway for knowledge of holistic form, is a diagram, pure and simple. And this is at the heart of my book, Transparent Drawing.

CULTURAL DISCONNECT

It is simply astounding to me that our fundamental cultural disconnect is revealed by a simple synonym / antonym association. Two nearly innocuous words, when, taken as opposites, reveals our vast cultural chasm. And this chasm has proved to be culturally dominant and repressive.

Possibly the word diagram will serve as a key for some readers. You might say to yourself, well, I can certainly draw a diagram. That might open the door a little. And then you might say, well, I’m curious about the Assembly One Line One Wash, and off you go. Suddenly, you are now in a Transparent Drawing mindset. Lines are put to paper with a freedom that you have not experienced before.

The potentials are infinite.
